Parker at 2 Weeks Old

Parker is two weeks old as of yesterday

Smiling while sleeping, but how knows why. Doesn't matter, because it's cute anyway.

Just because.

He's not the only one who thinks laying on daddy is warm and comfy. Nina's trying to get in on that too.

  • Went through four sleepers in 24 hours last weekend. How does that even happen? Rhetorical question. Best I can tell, the diaper didn't keep it all in while he was laying down?
  • When I watch him sleeping after he nurses, the "I drink until I pass out" onesie comes to mind.
  • Still a lighter sleep in the wee hours of the morning (like 2:00 or 3:00am-ish to 7:00 or 8:00am-ish) than during the day. Great for getting stuff done during the day, bad for trying to sleep at night. We're trying to slowly switch his nights and days by encouraging more awake time during the day, but that's hard for a newborn who just wants to sleep.
  • Favored turning his head to his left, though it seems to have evened out some in the last several days. Evelyn did something like this when she was a baby too, though I can't remember which side. It was often enough that it was slightly noticeable which side she preferred because of the way the head was being shaped from lying down so much on that side. When I asked the pediatrician about it with Evie, he had me do some head exercises that forced her to stretch the muscles on the other side. I suspect I might have to do the same with Parker if he continues to favor one side.
  • So far, we've been able to do a divide-and-conquer approach with Evie and Parker, where I stay up with Parker in the middle of the night exclusively, while Greg drops off and picks up Evie from daycare during the week. On Monday though, daycare wasn't open due to it being a staff development day, so I really got the full mom-of-two experience with both Evie and Parker at home with me all day while Greg was at work. Evie got way more screen time than she probably should've . . .
  • Evie has been pretty helpful with putting the pacifier back in Parker's mouth if it falls out. One night during the week though, she was in the middle of eating dinner and had already got up to put the pacifier back in Parker's mouth when she was finally like, "Mama, will you help Baby Parker?" in a pretty authoritative tone. Greg had a good laugh over how she said it (it's funnier in person, I'm sure).
  • Gets the hiccups a lot, probably at least once or twice a day. And it seems to coincide with him laying on his back, so it happens fairly frequently when I'm trying to put him back to sleep in the crib at night. Then the hiccups wake him up just when I think there is a good chance I can get him back in the crib asleep in the middle of the night, and I'm like, Khaaannn!
