A co-worker is having her first baby and I attended her work shower a couple of weekends ago. (This is the same co-worker that makes her own lip balm - Annie's Organic Lip Balm - which I love).
She's not finding out the gender beforehand, so the shower was bee-themed and yellow and black. I had to leave early, so I don't know if the cake and cupcakes were good, but look at how cute it looked!
I mulled over whether to buy or make a gift and, well, making a gift won out, because I can't resist picking out and buying fabric. Back before I had Evie, I made a set of cloth diaper burp cloths, which I loved and used when Parker came along. I like the padded 6-ply cloth diapers though, they are more absorbent.
I chose a couple of yellow prints and a couple of grey prints to use for the burp cloths. I also changed how I made the burp cloths from the first time. Instead of sewing a strip of fabric down the padded center only, I sewed the wrong side of patterned fabric to an entire side of the cloth diaper, leaving a small hole to turn the burp cloth right side out. Then I top-stitched the burp cloth around the edges (closing off the hole at the same time) and sewed over the existing stitching down the middle of the cloth diaper.
Ironing between steps was also helpful, though a pain. This included ironing after washing both the cloth diapers and the patterned fabric, as well as ironing after turning the burp cloths right side out.
I hope these get some good use like mine did!
